USCC Denounces New York Cease-and-Desist Against Fantasy Sports Companiesposted November 12, 2015
November 12, 2015 – Washington, D.C. – The US Consumer Coalition (USCC) released the following statement in response to New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman’s cease-and-desist order against fantasy sports companies DraftKings and FanDuel:
“This is a direct attack on New York consumers. The newest action by New York state regulators against a legally operating industry demonstrates a continued commitment to limiting consumer choice and freedom by New York state bureaucrats. Over the last few years everyone from the NYDFS Superintendent to the Attorney General have attempted to control consumer behavior by targeting the industries that provide them the services they use.
“Payment processors were targeted by a state version of Operation Choke Point, sovereign Native American tribes were targeted for their financial services products, and now consumers who use fantasy sports websites are being told that the Attorney General will prohibit that as well.
“The Attorney General and other state regulators must stop this assault on consumer choice and freedom and admit that consumers are smart enough to make their own decisions about which products and services they use.”
The US Consumer Coalition (USCC) is a grassroots consumer advocacy organization working to protect and expand access to free-market goods and services.
